Doggie Update
Well…there’s a new dog in the house as of yesterday afternoon and I thought I’d give a couple updates. I know I’ve gotten several emails from folks asking what his name is…so you’ll have to read inside to ‘get the scoop’. I did want to mention that we got him from the Luv4K9s rescue. They are a wonderful organization that rescues from Amish puppy mills and high kill shelters. They had so many wonderful little doggies down at the Petsmart on Feedwire yesterday and a number of them were going to their forever homes. Okay…on to the little guy…
First…his name at the rescue was Cutty but we have changed it to Cosby. (Think Bill Cosby and all the funny faces he makes.) He is around 7 months old (thank goodness…NO BABY TEETH) and weighs 6.2 lbs. Gypsy is not quite sure why we let a little rodent in the house but they have played some. Cosby had a tough first night in his crate…let’s just say Halloween was the perfect night for the ‘howling at the moon’. But he did settle down and slept through the night. He will be fine…just a little adjustment. Gypsy, though, did not like it one bit and hid under our bed all night. As he calms down, she will too. She is being such a great big sis. Perspective is such a funny thing. Gypsy always looked so small in comparison to Chloe…now she looks so large in comparison to Cosby. I am working on some of his ‘small dog’ behaviors of jumping and yapping. It will take time. He spent pretty much the entire afternoon sleeping yesterday and then came alive around 10 pm.
Cosby is a Havanese but looking at the breed it appears he is one who received the smooth hair recessive gene. When I looked at those pictures…it was him. They are very playful breeds and good with people. (a must in our house) Oh…a warning for those of you who come to my house…Cosby has the tongue of an anteater…long (I swear it is the length of his body) and thin. I have never seen a tongue quite that long in a dog. He is a cutie and will adjust…it just takes some time.
So…that’s the update after day one…oh…he likes to chew on bones like Gypsy does. Randy got him a little bone just for him. So…what’s happening? You guessed it…Gypsy is chewing on the small bone and Cosby is attacking the big one. It’s as big as him!

What a cute dog!! We lost our beloved Cookie in June and our kids gifted us with Lester a week later, even tho I had said we didn’t want a new pup for a year. We have Jeanni, a 13 year old ShiTzu, who barely tolerates him. He is our first little boy!! He is about 12 pounds and quite a character!! He’s one of those little designer mixes—Yorkie and Bijon. We took him to puppy school but will have to repeat it because Lester was the class clown and still has much to learn!!
Enjoy the adventure of a new dog!!

Congratulations and good luck! What a cutie, and as I have learned this past year, they are cute so you don’t kill them when their behavior isn’t so cute. You should have less trouble than I since Cosby is so tiny. I hope Gypsy warms up to him in no time.

Cosby is so adorable. I just want to squeeze him so much. He reminds me a little of Trixie Bell. A dog I had back in Louisianna. Give him a hug for me!!!
