Alter It 1 - Part 1
Okay…first for a confession…I LOVE to buy little things at all those $1 places…then take those items and ‘dress them up’ with my stamps and stuff. I hadn’t been to one of the stores since around Christmas and thought I’d check to she if they had anything new. JACKPOT!!! Oh my…so many nice things! So…once a week for the next couple weeks I’m going to have a feature called “Alter It” where I take these ‘finds’ and give them a new look…more inside…
Okay…this one is going to end up being two posts (so come back tomorrow) because it ended up being so many items. This is the picture of the first ‘set’ of $1 items I bought. Okay…I little down ‘memory lane’. Back in August 1999 I went to my VERY FIRST SU workshop. I saw and fell in love with the DD Hydrangea set and bought purples and greens to use with the set (because I LOVE purples and greens). I went home and decided I was becoming a demo! That has always been one of my VERY favorite sets ever!
So why the trip down memory lane? When I saw these items, I thought about that Hydrangea set from so many years (and so many sets - LOL!) ago! Now onto to the two projects that I’m sharing for today. To make the first project, I took the ‘magnetic’ list (that you would hang on your refrigerator) and made it into a memo pad. This particular one worked nicely because the design went down the left hand side. I have a heavy duty paper cutter so I took the pad and was able to cut half at a time. My new pad ended up being 4 x 4 (I also removed the ‘binding’ from along the top so that all the pieces were loose). I made a little holder from a piece of Bashful Blue cardstock and added a band around the top to hold everything in place. Next I took a Night of Navy medallion from the Pennant XL die and put it on the strip. I stamped my initial using the Lovely Letters in Lavender Lace on Very Vanilla cardstock. I punched out with a 1 1/4” circle, layered onto a 1 3/8” Bashful Blue Circle and then a 1 3/4” Certainly Celery circle. It’s that a nice why to change around the a magnetic list to something else!
This is a little purse size memo pad. I liked it because the cover has a magnetic clasp. To change it up from the original all I did was wrap a piece of Bashful Blue 1/4” grosgrain ribbon around it, stamped the M with Lavender Lace and punched out using the 1 1/4” square punch, layered onto a Night of Navy Scallop Square punch and then a piece of Certainly Celery that I had sponged with Night of Navy. Now how quick and easy is that? I was going to use the same ‘medallion’ look that I had on the memo pad holder but it covered too much of the print so I went with the squares. They had a BUNCH of these little mini pads with the magnetic clasp at the store when I went so I just HAD to pick up several!
So tomorrow I’m going to feature the cards I made ... make sure you come back to see them…SOOOO cute!

Hi! I am subscribed to your website. I was wondering what kind of “heavy cutter” you have that will cut the notepads in half? Love your work! Elaine
